Gamers Club, the leading esports platform in Latin America, was facing challenges with dishonest players such as cheaters using hacks, smurfs with lower-level accounts, and toxic players with negative behavior. Addressing these issues not only strengthens competitive integrity but also creates a healthier and more inclusive gaming environment.

Problems with cheaters

The persistence of players using third-party software severely compromises the integrity of the gaming experience for all participants. With the constant evolution and daily creation of new cheats, the need to combat these practices quickly and effectively becomes imperative.

Reducing the perceived presence of these players on the platform is crucial to ensuring Gamers Club’s existence and reputation within its community, while providing a fairer and more engaging environment for all users.

Problem with smurf players

The harmful practice of players using secondary accounts with lower levels than their real skill creates significant imbalances in the gaming experience, undermining fairness and competitiveness. While some companies in the gaming industry do not explicitly prohibit the use of smurfs, Gamers Club takes a firm stance against it.

Problem with toxicity

With negative behaviors and direct or indirect attacks during matches, the presence of toxic players creates a harmful environment, negatively affecting the gaming experience for all participants. Addressing and mitigating this toxicity is essential to preserving the integrity of the community, promoting a healthier, more inclusive, and enjoyable environment for all users within Gamers Club.

Design process

Although it may seem like an obvious solution, the implementation was far from simple. We invested an entire year in in-depth research and workshops before we were truly ready to begin developing this feature.

How might we strengthen Gamers Club’s competitive integrity by effectively addressing the presence of cheaters, smurfs, and toxic players, ensuring a fair and positive gaming experience for the entire community?

Involving those who understand the subject

Developing a journey that is simple and intuitive for users both in Brazil and across other Latin American countries.

Through a strategic partnership with IDWall, a leader in the document verification market, we strengthened our ability to ensure security and authenticity in all operations. This not only reassures users that their documents are protected but also allows us to strictly comply with LGPD regulations.

For users who provide a CPF or Brazilian driver’s license, the full account verification process is carried out through the IDWall app. Those who present a DNI as their identification document follow a dedicated document submission flow within the Gamers Club platform, seamlessly integrated with IDWall’s verification systems.

Benefits for players who verify their accounts

Gradually requiring verification for major game modes

Discounts on subscriptions, additional rewards for winning matches, networking with other verified players, and more. In this way, Gamers Club highlights the importance of account verification and motivates other players to join the process.

Beyond simple alerts, Gamers Club is moving toward making account verification mandatory over time, especially for participation in the main game modes, particularly competitive ones that involve prizes.

Plans for the Future

Gamers Club still has many initiatives to further improve community safety. Some interesting examples include:

Requiring selfies at specific points of the journey for players with verified accounts but low credibility (e.g., someone who verified an account using their grandmother’s ID).
Offering more benefits and incentives for players to verify their accounts.
Introducing verification levels, bringing in additional information such as Steam playtime (it’s fine that you’re verified, but could it still be a verified smurf account?).

In summary, the account verification journey at Gamers Club is not just about security, but a continuous evolution toward a more authentic, fair, and inclusive gaming experience.
